Dental Cleanings & Preventative Care

Comprehensive Dental Cleanings and Preventive Care for Optimal Oral Health in Beverly Hills

Are You Struggling with…

Routine Cleanings for Prevention

Dental check ups can sometimes seem like another task to check off your list. Get your teeth cleaned quickly and move on with your day. At Beverly Hills Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Hanam-Jahr’s over 25 years of experience in general dentistry and her team aren’t just about fixing dental issues. They’re dedicated to spotting problems before they even start to form through preventive dental care.

We use digital imaging and proven early detection methods to catch oral health problems at their earliest stage, when treatment is simplest and least expensive. Gum health and general health are connected, and inflammation in the mouth does not stay in the mouth. Catching it early protects your teeth and supports the rest of your body.

Professional Teeth Cleanings

To maintain healthy teeth and gums between dental visits, Dr. Hanam-Jahr advises getting professional dental cleanings at least twice a year to prevent common issues like tooth decay and gum disease. Depending on your individual oral health needs and risk factors, she might suggest more frequent visits or a deep cleaning below the gumline to remove hardened tartar and calm inflamed tissue.

During your professional teeth cleaning appointment, we use advanced dental tools and proven techniques to quickly and comfortably remove plaque buildup and tartar, followed by thorough polishing to eliminate surface stains and bacteria. In some cases, we may recommend fluoride treatment for added enamel strength and cavity prevention to keep your smile healthy between visits.

Oral Cancer Screenings

With every dental visit, you will receive a comprehensive oral cancer screening using the advanced ViziLite PRO® oral cancer detection system. This painless, non-invasive cancer screening technology is so sensitive that it can detect instances of oral cancer and precancerous lesions in even the earliest stages for better treatment outcomes.

The ViziLite PRO®, with its specialized light-based fluorescence technology, enhances visualization of oral tissue abnormalities and suspicious lesions that may not be apparent during routine oral examinations. A ViziLite PRO cancer screening is easy for the dental professional and completely painless for the patient, helping clinicians discover potentially harmful oral abnormalities and early signs of oral cancer, often long before they’d be detected with conventional visual examination methods.

Laser Treatments

Our skilled dental hygienists use laser dentistry to help Beverly Hills patients reduce gum inflammation and lower harmful bacteria in the mouth. The Biolase Epic Hygiene laser system allows us to target periodontal disease and gum infection comfortably, without cutting or stitches.

The laser reaches into the infected pockets around the tooth and treats the tissue directly. For gingivitis and early periodontitis, the treatment takes as little as five minutes and most patients feel little to nothing during it.

Biolase Laser

At Beverly Hills Aesthetic Dentistry, we use the Epic Hygiene Diode Laser to support gum health and treat periodontal disease. The laser targets harmful bacteria and removes infected tissue around the teeth, addressing the cause of the infection rather than the symptoms.

The procedure takes 5 to 10 minutes and most patients report little to no discomfort. It lowers bacteria levels and slows the spread of gum infection. Added to your regular cleanings and checkups, laser therapy supports long-term gum health. When pockets are already deep, it becomes one part of a broader gum disease treatment plan rather than a standalone fix.

Athletic Mouthguard’s

If you are involved in any type of contact sports or athletic activities, it’s important that you protect your smile from dental injuries! One of your best pieces of dental insurance is a professionally-fitted athletic mouthguard. Our custom sports mouthguards are individually designed and customized to each and every patient, providing superior protection for your teeth, gums, and jaw. These protective mouthguards also provide important protection against sports-related concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

Custom athletic mouthguards offer significantly better protection than over-the-counter options because they’re precisely molded to fit your unique bite and tooth alignment. Whether you play football, basketball, hockey, boxing, or any contact sport, a properly fitted mouthguard can prevent costly dental emergencies, tooth fractures, and soft tissue injuries. Dr. Hanam-Jahr creates each sports mouthguard using advanced materials that provide maximum protection while ensuring comfortable wear during athletic performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a dental cleaning every six months?

For most people, yes, because plaque hardens into tartar within days and no amount of brushing removes it once it does. Six months is the starting point, not a rule. If you have bleeding gums, deeper pockets, or a history of gum treatment, Dr. Hanam-Jahr may recommend a three or four month interval instead. The ADA notes that regular visits catch problems early, when treatment is simpler and more affordable. Ask what interval fits your mouth rather than assuming the default. Call (310) 276-2088 to schedule.

How is a deep cleaning different from a regular cleaning?

A regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar above the gumline and suits gums that are healthy. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, reaches below the gumline into periodontal pockets and smooths the tooth root so bacteria have less to cling to. The American Academy of Periodontology describes scaling beneath the gumline to remove plaque and bacterial toxins from periodontal pockets. Which one you need depends on pocket depth measurements, bleeding, and X-rays, not on preference.

Are dental cleanings supposed to hurt?

Healthy gums usually feel only light pressure and scraping during a cleaning. Discomfort tends to mean something is already inflamed, or tartar has built up close to the gumline where the tissue is tender. Cleveland Clinic covers what a professional cleaning involves and how discomfort gets managed. Tell us before we start if you have sensitive spots or a rough past experience. We can numb an area, slow down, or split the visit into two appointments.

Why do I need X-rays during a cleaning visit?

X-rays show what an exam cannot, including decay starting between teeth, bone loss around roots, and infection at the tip of a root. They are not taken at every visit by default. The ADA now advises ordering X-rays only when clinically necessary, and no longer recommends lead aprons or thyroid collars. If you are unsure why an image is being taken, ask. You should get a clear reason before the machine is positioned.

Can skipping cleanings affect my overall health?

Gum inflammation is linked to problems well beyond the mouth. Harvard Health reports that people with gum disease carry two to three times the risk of a heart attack or stroke, with chronic inflammation as the likely common thread. The link is an association rather than a proven cause, and shared risk factors like smoking may explain part of it. Staying on a cleaning schedule keeps bacteria and inflammation low either way.
